Multan Sultans were outclassed by a batting master-class from Peshawar Zalmi’s Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Imam-ul-Haq to help them chase down a mammoth total.

Peshawar skipper Wahab Riaz won the toss and elected to field first as Mohammad Rizwan and Chris Lynn came out to open the innings for Multan. Lynn was sent back to the pavilion by Mohammad Irfan in the second over but Rizwan and James Vince took the attack to the Zalmi bowlers.

The duo added 82 runs together before Mohammad Imran had Rizwan caught at point on 41. Vince kept on piling boundaries to all corners of the National Stadium and reached a magnificent half-century in the process.

After the wicket of Rizwan, Sohaib Maqsood joined Vince in the middle and started smacking from the get-go. Maqsood was able to connect a few bad balls and he ended up adding a valuable 36 off just 21 deliveries featuring two maximums and four boundaries.

After a couple of tight overs in the latter part of the innings, Vince flicked a straighter delivery into the hands of Irfan who took a simple catch to end a captivating knock of 84.

Emerging paceman Imran was the most impressive bowler for Zalmi as he took one wicket and only conceded 24 in his four overs. Saqib Mahmood also took two important wickets and kept the Sultans’ lower-order subdued.

In their chase of the 194-run target, Kamran Akmal and Imam provided a steady start to Zalmi, managing to score more than 50 runs in the Powerplay. Akmal’s 24-ball 37 set the tone for Peshawar whereas Tom Kohler-Cadmore grabbed the opportunity in his first PSL match with both hands.

Imam’s sturdy innings of 48 came to an end courtesy a bullet-throw from Carlos Brathwaite finding the former short of his crease. However, Kohler-Cadmore (53) was finding boundaries with ease and he smoked his maiden PSL fifty.

With more than 30 required off the last three overs, Rizwan brought the debutant Shahnawaz Dhani into the attack and he instantly reaped rewards with a double-strike in the over.

After sending both Kohler-Cadmore and Sherfane Rutherford to the pavilion, the match was evenly poised and all eyes were on the experienced Brathwaite who was called upon to deliver the 18th over.

Meanwhile, Peshawar had Shoaib Malik and Haider Ali on the crease and Brathwaite conceded 13 in the over to firmly put Zalmi on track. Dhani was brought back to bowl the penultimate over but Haider finished things off in a flash.

The Attock-born batter blasted a quickfire 24 off just 8 balls with two fours and as many sixes to take the PSL 2017 champions home and consign Sultans to a second defeat this season.
