Pakistan's veteran T20 specialist Umar Gul has been appointed as the new bowling coach of Quetta Gladiators for the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Gul will replace the former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq as the new bowling coach of the franchise.

Gul has also played for the Men in Purple in the first two editions of the tournament. The Yorker specialist is now all set to rub shoulders with Sir Vivian Richards and Moin Khan that are serving as team mentor and head coach respectively.

Abdul Razzaq won't be able to continue as the bowling coach of Quetta after he was denied NOC by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that refrain provincial coaches to appear in the same capacity in the PSL as well. He's currently coaching the highly-successful Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) in domestic cricket.

“We looked at both local and foreign options and felt that Gul will prove to be the best choice for us because of his understanding of modern-day cricket. He dominated the best players of the world in T20 format so he would be a perfect guide to our bowling group,” Moin stated.

Moin also said wished all the luck to Abdul Razzaq for his contributions towards the franchise in the last couple of years.

“I would also like to wish best of luck to Razzaq for his future assignments as he served the team really well," he added.

On the other hand, Gul is super excited to work alongside some sensational young pacers such as Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain.

“I’m thrilled to join one of the best PSL franchises in Quetta Gladiators. They have some amazing young bowlers and I can’t wait to work with them. I want to thank Nadeem Omar and Moin Khan for believing in me and giving me this massive opportunity." said Gul.
