Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir are the two front line pacers of Pakistan. Both of them have been playing for more than 10 years and recently, they also said goodbye to Test Cricket. Wahab has however, taken an indefinite break from the longer format whereas Mohammad Amir has retired completely from red-ball cricket.

After the pace duo announced their decision of quitting Test cricket, a wave of criticism struck them and they were heavily criticized for refusing to play Tests. A section of people also believe that the two pacers have said goodbye to Test cricket in order to play more T20 leagues and earn money.

However, Wahab has denied this notion completely and stated that the reason of leaving Test cricket was not taken in order to make money. He also stated that the reason of them losing the central contract might as well be related to their decision of leaving Test cricket.

"It is possible that we have been exemplified for quitting red-ball cricket or maybe the PCB wanted to give a chance to young fast bowlers and groom them by keeping them centrally contracted," he said.

He talked about the false impression of the people that are criticizing the duo for their decision of quitting Test cricket.

"There is a false impression that we have given up red-ball cricket to make money from leagues. There is no such thing. We have always preferred to play for Pakistan and our decision should be respected," Riaz added.

He also added that he wasn’t a part of the Test side since 2017 and he was hardly getting any chances in the longer format.

"Since 2017, I was not even a regular fixture of the Test squad. I had barely played a Test," the 34-year-old said.

He further added that his priority is to play for Pakistan as much as possible and he is not thinking about the central contract at the moment.

"Central contract is not my priority ... playing for the country is and will always be. It will be an honor to play for the country whenever the opportunity arises." he stated.

When asked about his potential comeback to red-ball cricket, Riaz stated that he hasn’t made any decision so far about his possible comeback to the Test squad.

"I have not thought or planned to return to red-ball cricket. When I feel like playing, I will intimate the PCB about my decision," he concluded.
