The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced its revamped domestic structure last year and departmental teams were scrapped in the latest model. The board also received severe criticism for its decision as some of the prominent and active domestic cricketers were left unemployed.

In a recent development, the PCB is thinking about solving the problems of the financially struggling domestic cricketers that were affected by the new domestic structure. Holding a grade 2 tournament for departmental teams is also going to be discussed in the next cricket committee meeting of the PCB.

In this challenging hour, Pakistan's head coach-cum-chief selector Misbah ul Haq has also urged all stakeholders to come forward and support the cricketers.

“We have to do something for the unemployed departmental cricketers because if we don’t take care of them they will leave cricket which won’t be good for our cricket, in the same manner as players from other sports, such as hockey, when they faced financial issues,” said Misbah

It is important to note that more than 300 players have been left unemployed after the announcement of the new domestic structure.

“In departmental structure, around 500 players were employed but now that number has dropped to around 200. The board is thinking about how to incorporate the unemployed cricketers in the current setup.”

Misbah also stated that the board has approached the concerned authorities and the Government as well in this regard.

“We have also approached the government and departments in this regard, which includes the department I played, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited. All the stakeholders have to come together and think about the well-being of cricketers,” he added.
