The upcoming meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has been postponed due to the severe outbreak of Coronavirus Pandemic around the globe. The meeting was extremely important because the venue and schedule of the tournament haven’t been finalized yet.
Although, the hosting rights of the event are with Pakistan but, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had earlier stated that the tournament needs to be played at a neutral venue because of their overwrought political tensions with India.
“Asia Cup will be hosted by Pakistan however the event would have to take place at a neutral venue. If we insist on hosting the event in Pakistan, the Indian team will not take part. We do not care what the BCCI says,” Mani said.
Ehsan Mani had to make a statement after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly said that the tournament will take place in Dubai with both India and Pakistan playing against each other.
"Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and both India and Pakistan will play," Ganguly said.
However, the PCB is still hopeful of hosting Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the home country, even if the rest of the tournament is played at a neutral venue.
The earlier meeting of the ACC was also canceled due to Coronavirus outbreak and the upcoming sitting has been postponed as well.
At the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting later this month, ACC Executive Board hoped to discuss various venue choices with its members. However, because of the above-mentioned virus, the ICC meeting will take place through a video conference on Friday,
The cases of Coronavirus Pandemic are increasing day by day in the region and we have no ACC meetings lined up in the near future. It means there is a looming threat over the Asia Cup 2020 happening this year.
