It was not even a month after the conclusion of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup that Pakistan Cricket Board decided to go ahead with revamping the national coaching set up and not renew the contract of existing coaching staff including the head coach Mickey Arthur.

Misbah-ul-Haq was the front runner and he eventually got the job along with the chief selector position as he was named the new head coach-cum chief selector on a three-year contract.

Among other candidates, there was one notable name of Dean Jones, who was the head coach of Islamabad United and helped them in winning the Pakistan Super League twice (2016, 2018) and he was neglected for someone who had no previous experience of coaching.

In a question-answer session on twitter with #Askprof, he was asked by Cricnews that would he like to become the head coach of the Pakistan cricket team in future to which he replied that applying once was enough and he won’t be doing so in the future, ending any possibility of him becoming the national team coach.

He quote tweeted the original tweet with “I will never apply again! Ever.”

Dean Jones was also disregarded in favour of Misbah-ul-Haq after his contract with Islamabad United was not renewed and the latter being named as the new head coach of the franchise. However, Jones was taken up by Kings instantly as their new head coach and he led them into the semi-finals before the PSL-V was postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19 outbreak.
