The Big bash League has decided to follow the example of the Indian Premier League and has implemented strategic time out for the upcoming season which starts on 17 December.

However, unlike IPL, there will be only one strategic time out per innings which will be taken by the batting side from overs 7-13. The time out will last for 90 seconds.

"The Strategic Time Out has been thought about and developed over the last couple of years, with input from key stakeholders in the game. We've seen the strategic time outs used in other T20 competitions around the world, and we feel that providing the batting team with the power to call a time out will add an extra tactical dimension to the outcome of the game, with the priority of maximising runs," Cricket Australia's Head of Big Bash Leagues Alistair Dobson said on the changes to the playing conditions.

Another change that Big Bash has brought about is regarding the super over. After the recent implementation by ICC, that in case of a tied super over - as it happened in the World Cup Final, super over will be repeated unless there is a winner, BBL have followed suit and implemented the same in case the game and super over ends in a tie. However, in case a league game ends in a tie, super over won’t be repeated and the teams will share the points.

"We are always looking for ways to improve the competition for our fans, players, and clubs. The super over has been a discussion point globally after the ICC Cricket World Cup Final. We are pleased to have landed on a solution that provides teams and fans with a more satisfying outcome to a finals match,” the Head off BBL said.
