The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 was full of dramatic matches and the green shirts were also part of some of the most enthralling encounters of the event.

After putting themselves in a do or die situation, team Pakistan faced Afghanistan on this day last year at the historic Leeds Cricket ground. Bowlers did really well for Pakistan as they restricted the Afghans to a low total.

Shaheen Shah Afridi struck twice on consecutive deliveries to leave the Afghan side reeling at 27-2. Rahmat Shah (35) and former captain Asghar Afghan (42) played sensibly in the middle to take the team's score past 150. Left-hander Najib Ullah Zadran also contributed with a handy 42 to finish the Afghan innings at 227.

Shaheen Shah Afridi took 4-47 in his 10 overs whereas Imad Wasim and Wahab Riaz took two wickets each. It was a pressure game for Pakistan as the Afghan spin attack could trouble any batting line up in the world.

Off-spinner Mujeeb ur Rehman started the proceedings and straightway the alarm bells rang as Fakhar Zaman was trapped in front of the wicket. After the early loss of Fakhar, Imam ul Haq and Babar Azam played sensibly and formed a significant partnership of 72.

Former Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi struck twice in a space of two overs to send both Babar (45) and Imam (36) back to the pavilion. A little partnership was developed between Haris Sohail and Mohammad Hafeez but the spin wizard Rashid Khan was starting to cast his magic in the middle overs.

Hafeez (19) edged a wide delivery off Mujeeb straight into the hands of the point fielder to raise a ray of hope for Afghanistan. Haris Sohail (27) was trapped in front of the wicket by Rashid Khan and Pakistan had lost half of their side before reaching 150.

Captain Sarfraz Ahmed got himself run out while trying to steal an extra single and all-rounder Imad Wasim was struggling against the spin attack of Afghanistan. The Afghan tigers were looking to cause another major upset but, Imad and fast bowler Wahab Riaz played like genuine artists.

Before Wahab joined Imad in the middle, Shadab had already contributed in a 50-run partnership with Imad Wasim that took Pakistan closer to the finishing line. After Shadab's unfortunate run out, Wahab came out with an injured finger to play that famous slog sweep off Rashid Khan's bowling.

In the last over, Gulbadin Naib was smacked for consecutive fours by Imad Wasim and the all-rounder finished on 49* with Wahab getting 15 off just 9 with the help of six and a four. A section of Afghan and Pakistan supporters were engaged in a physical fight during and before the start of this match and the green shirts came out on top, much to the delight of their passionate fans.
